Constellation
Aquarius
The shape: a loose group of faint stars.
Aquarius, the Water Bearer, is Ganymede, cupbearer to the gods, pouring water from a jug – Jupiter's largest moon is also named after him. The Eta Aquariid shooting stars come from his direction in May.
The stars of the figure
From bright to faint. Brightness is given in magnitudes (mag): the smaller the number, the brighter the star.
- Sadalsuud · 2.9 mag
- Sadalmelik · 2.95 mag
Shooting stars from the constellation Aquarius
Eta Aquariids: these shooting stars seem to come from this part of the sky. More under Meteor showers.
In the 3D model
In the 3D model, under “Explore”, the sky dome shows when the constellation Aquarius can be seen above Switzerland. “Constellations in 3D” shows how far apart its stars really are.
